The Leap Pediatric and Adolescent Care Board of Directors are experienced clinicians, community builders, health care leaders, and youth wellness proponents. They are committed to change so that everyone can be healthy and thrive.
Board Chair
Mark Traynor

Mark Traynor is a former Healthcare Executive, and a current aspiring teacher after 23 years at UCare including over four years as Chief Executive Officer. An experienced attorney, Mark earned his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School, in addition to obtaining a master’s degree from the University of Minnesota as a Humphrey Fellow and a B.A. from Macalester College. He brings extensive experience in healthcare and community engagement to the Leap Board of Directors. He has served on multiple boards of nonprofit organizations, including Keystone Community Services and Lifeworks.
Board Vice Chair
Missy Staples-Thompson

Missy Staples Thompson, a graduate of Macalester College, and a former Humphrey Fellow at the University of Minnesota, has been a leader in the field of finance, economic development, and community engagement for over thirty years. Currently a principal in the Twin Cities-based consulting firm, Xanthus Partners, she offers expertise in finance, development, and community engagement strategies for housing, economic development, and education initiatives. As a Twin Cities Business "Top Woman Change Maker", she brings extensive experience in community engagement.
Board Secretary
Sheila Riggs

Sheila Riggs is the Chair of the Department of Primary Dental Care at the University of Minnesota. She is a cohesive integrator who disrupts the status quo in the name of better patient care, stronger team leadership, and enhanced processes. With a Doctor of Dental Science degree from University of Iowa, Dr. Riggs also holds certifications from the Wharton School of Business Executive Education Program. Her experience includes serving as CEO Delta Dental of Minnesota and executive roles at Wellmark Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Iowa and South Dakota and its Foundation. Sheila is a highly sought expert on change management, leading others to execute on evolutionary strategies. She has diverse board leadership experience and embodies her tagline “Collaborate. Build. Do.”
Board Treasurer
Patrick Mitsch

Patrick Mitsch has spent seven years with UCare and is currently the Vice President of Pharmacy. Educated at the University of Duluth and University of Minnesota, he holds a Doctorate of Pharmacy. Mr. Mitsch is committed to bringing excellence to clinical support provided through UCare’s pharmacy and clinical teams. Working to meet the evolving needs of patients and communities with agility, compassion, and professionalism, he took a lead role in designing and implementing the award-winning clinical COVID-19 response for UCare. Mr. Mitsch makes a positive impact through engagement with organizations supporting youth and elderly in his community.

Kevin Fleming

Kevin Fleming is an assistant county attorney and Interim Director of the Youth Justice and Wellness Division of the Ramsey County Attorney's Office, which handles juvenile delinquency and child protection matters. Before joining the Ramsey County Attorney's Office, Mr. Fleming spent ten years conducting complex investigations with the Minnesota Department of Corrections. Mr. Fleming graduated from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law, where his interests were in criminal law, constitutional law, and transactional law. Prior to law school, Mr. Fleming graduated with honors from Hamline University, where he majored in legal studies, criminology, and criminal justice.

Dr. MayKao Hang

Dr. MayKao Y. Hang is Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, and Founding Dean, Morrison Family College of Health at the University of St. Thomas. She is former President and CEO of the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation where she spent ten years leading the organization through transformational changes. Dr. Hang has degrees from Brown University, the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs, and Hamline University. She is experienced in the public and nonprofit sectors serving low income and disadvantaged populations with direct services, integrating health and social services, and advancing systems change. Dr. Hang has a history of success in forging cross-sector partnerships to generate solutions to benefit underrepresented and marginalized populations.
